Rumors swirl over Spektor Island "Massacre" murders

While Provincetown authorities determine the identities of the 12 victims found brutally murdered Monday at the Babirusa Mansion on Spektor Island, the Mayor's office held a public forum to address local safety concerns, including rumors among Provincetown natives about hauntings plaguing the island for more than 200 years.

“The Wydah butcher [of the sunken Wydah pirate ship] is back,” local fisherman Paul Valley said at the forum. “I saw the first body found and those were the cuts of a butcher’s blade.”

Valley discovered the body of a dark-haired male lying in the open front door of Babirusa while he wandered Spektor’s cliffs in search of a fruitful fishing location. After discovering the body, Valley returned to the mainland to alert authorities.

Valley said he remains a staunch believer in the Wydah butcher hauntings, asking public officials how his Provincetown neighbors could remain safe with the haunted island so near.

District Attorney Johnson Igpay said that while no suspects have been identified, “blaming these unfortunate deaths on a supposed haunting would be a disservice to the victims of the Spektor Island incident. The person or people responsible for this travesty will be found and brought to justice.”
